Company Profile: Webflow
Origin Story
Webflow is a SaaS company founded by two brothers Vlad Magdalin, Sergie Magdalin and Bryant Chou, who worked with Vlad at Intuit. Wikipedia has their launch date as August 5, 2013, which, according to Vlad, looks like when they were accepted to Y Combinator.
Webflow is an application that allows users to build responsive websites with browser-based visual editing software (aka no code). While users use the tool, Webflow automatically generates code.
Today
Webflow had a slow growth until 2019 when things EXPLODED for them. On August 7, 2019 they closed their Series A ($70 mil) and 16 months later closed a Series B ($140 mil), both rounds led by Accel. They currently tout a $2.1 bil + valuation and were cash flow positive in 2020.

Three Interesting Things
Vocal on Social. If you are involved in tech twitter, you’ve run into someone who works at Webflow (potentially it’s Vlad the CEO). They are building a team of folks who aren’t afraid to speak their minds and this seems to be supported by the organization. They speak very openly about social justice, free speech and anti-racism.
Diversity. Webflow appears to be quite active in their work to improve the diversity of their organization. They have a Head of DEI who has been in that role for over a year, which is impressive for their size. They recently publicly launched a DEI page that shares their programs and the diversity numbers within the organization. Currently the team is primarily white (61%) and male (55%). It should be noted that these are full company numbers and not broken down by role type.
New(ish) leadership team. Not unsurprisingly, it looks like Webflow brought in a new leadership team when they raised their Series A. The only people who have been on the executive team more than 2 years are the Co-founders. This means that either folks in those roles were leveled (someone brought in a title above them) or they didn’t previously have those roles. For context, it is not uncommon for companies to have different leadership teams at different stages of growth. Often, someone who is good at leading through a Series A is not that same person who is fit to lead at a Series C.

13% is an admirable number. I regularly see 20-30% open.
